In Scramble's view, Bergans of Norway make the best wool-based baselayers available today (and they've tested an enormous range of competing products from Icebreaker, Odlo, Helly Hansen, Rab, Smartwool, Rewoolution and on and on).
The Soleie is part of Bergans' ultralight series, it's their lightest range of woolen garments developed for use in all kinds of conditions (hot and cold). Merino wool has a unique temperature-regulating ability, making sure you stay cool in warm weather and warm as the temperature drops. Merino wool is also exceptionally good at eliminating odors.
The Soleie baselayer is ideal if you're looking for a luxuriously comfortable multipurpose next-to-the-skin layer. Ideal for multi-layering and due to its light weight (~160g), the Soleie excels as a backup baselayer that can be carried in more extreme, sub-zero conditions.
Scramble stock this item as an alternative to their top ranked Helly Hansen Dry Revolution and Elite baselayers for those who like to utilise the many benefits of merino wool in their general-use baselayers. If you're looking specifically for a winter baselayer, Scramble recommend the Akeleie Half Zip or the Fjellrapp (for those who prefer a crew neck). If you're after one baselayer to do it all, the Soleie is probably as close as you're going to get.
Merino wool is a high-quality natural fibre with numerous benefits:

Sizing / Measuring
Bergans sizing is pretty accurate. This kind of baselayer will work best as a reasonably fitted item, so if you're on the margins we recommend sizing down. The fit of the Soleie is very similar to the Akeleie which you can see being "modelled" by Scramble's editor in their review of the Akeleie. Scramble's editor has a 42" chest and is 5ft 8" tall and wears a size large.
