In winter, when packs are often bulkier and heavier, it's helpful to shed all the excess grams you can especially for mountaineering or long duration mountain treks. Crampon bags are often quite a bit heavier than they need be, so Edelrid made the Crampon Bag Lite; a surprisingly light-weight yet extremely robust crampon bag that will carry the vast majority of crampons on the market.
The mesh used on the vent panels is extremely durable and puncture resistant, likewise the tightly woven high-tenacity hexagon ripstop nylon that runs from top to bottom. Scramble's description of "freakishly light" is very apt, as it's hard to understand how this bag doesn't weigh more than 46g.
The Crampon Bag Lite has everything you need and nothing you don't. A high quality product at a great price.
Typical Customer Review
"The Edelrid Crampon Bag Lite is highly functional for lightweight mountaineering. It has sufficient capacity for substantial crampons such as Petzl Lynx and the Black Diamond Sabretooth, both with 14 points. The mesh sides allow moisture to evaporate but have integrity to stop puncturing. The advanced fabric construction is well designed and featherweight at 46 grams. As a materials scientist and a long-time mountaineer I have not found a better bag."
GP-Net Side Note
These also make excellent bags for keeping all your camera accessories in one place. We use them to carry: a few small backup lenses (e.g. 12-32mm, 20mm MFT), mini tripods (e.g. Novoflex Micropod), remote shutter releases, viewfinders, spare batteries, cleaning cloths, SD cards etc ...) and there's plenty of room for more.
Edelrid have been making ropes for over 150 years. They invented kernmantle ropes in 1953 which greatly reduced rope breakage. In 2006 Edelrid became part of the Vaude Group, and are predominantly known for their climbing ropes, harnesses, carabiners and helmets.
