DAC - Heavy Weights of the Ultralight

DAC are synonymous with ultralight tent design. Nordisk, Hilleberg, MSR, Nemo, Terra Nova, Sierra Designs (and many many more) all use DAC poles in their lightweight offerings. The reason is simple, they're the best performing ultralight poles available. In addition they're also the most environmentally friendly due to their anodizing process (traditionally a toxic and filthy operation) which negates the need for nitric and phosphoric acid.

DAC Support & Repair Sleeves for 9mm or 10.25mm DAC Poles

The DAC Repair Sleeves are 13cm long and made from a thick and very strong Aluminium Alloy. There are two versions - one suitable for 9mm poles, the other for 10.5mm poles:

Length = 13cm, External Diameter = 11.1mm for use with 9mm Poles
Length = 13cm, External Diameter = 13.2mm for use with 10.25mm Poles

Intended Use:

DAC suggest these are used to repair poles and recommend that they are taped to the pole for when the unthinkable break happens. However, Scramble recommend, in high wind and stormy conditions, they're used as additional support (preventing such breaks from happening in the first place).

On a 3-pole setup, the elastic band used to pack them can be slid up to the second joint with the repair/support sleeve resting above it. This is enough to hold the sleeve in place and will provide the necessary rigidity and support to reduce pole flex, making sure they survive the storm.

At only 9g for the 9mm version and 11g for the 10.25mm poles, they add little weight to your pack, but provide a great deal of insurance against unfortunate accidents. A must have for anyone who spends extended periods trekking outdoors with a tarp and bivvy setup.

Bonus Feature:

The DAC Repair Sleeve for 9mm poles (with a 11.1mm external diameter) also fits extremely nicely into Scramble's Tarp Attachment Pole End for the 10.25mm poles). This means that these cheap pole attachment ends will also fit nicely with 9mm poles when the repair sleeve is fitted inside them.
