Possibly the Best Synthetic Winter Baselayer Around
Scramble recommend a hybrid merino wool / synthetic baselayer for winter use - the excellent Akeleie Half Zip by Bergans of Norway. But for those that prefer their baselayers lighter, synthetic and perfectly form-fitting, the Odlo Evolution Warm Crew is hard to beat. These baselayers work very well combined with a good balaclava like the Pyua Flash, which act as a neck gaiter, face mask and full balaclava. The best balaclavas have a deep bib section which covers the chest and lower neck at the back, so a crew neck is then less of an issue in winter.
In extreme cold environments the Evolution Warm Crew's close fit makes it ideal to layer under traditional winter baselayers like the Akeleie.
The Evolution Warm Crew is ideal for most snow sports, winter trail running, mountain biking, winter cycling and mountain trekking. But not so good for more stop-start activities like climbing.

- Anti-bacterial - stays fresh: Odlo® Effect™ Silver Ion Treatment: A chemical free treatment using silver ions that is encapsulated into the fabric to prevent the build up of bacteria keeping the fabric fresher. Silver ions are applied at the point of production and are bonded to every particle within the fabric minimising unpleasant odours.
Sizing / Measuring
Odlo's reported sizing is pretty accurate. Their editor has a 42" chest and wears a size Large.
