Ultralight Sil-Nylon 5L Stuff Sack with a Reinforced Circular Base

If Sea To Summit, Exped or any of the other manufacturers of ultralight stuff sacks made one to this specification, then Scramble surely wouldn't have bothered, but they don't so Scramble did.

Given away in the name, this stuff sack is specifically designed to hold cooking kits for long distance solo trekkers. It has a 15cm diameter circular reinforced base (the double layer reinforcement runs 10cm up the sides), is large enough to hold most solo pots and bowls, and has been designed to also hold a 500g gas canister with enough spare room for the day's food rations.

These stuff sacks are doubled-seamed (not doubled-stitched or over-locked) which creates a self-binding seam making them stronger and more water-resistant.

Although extremely strong, they weigh just 25g (Green / Grey) and 28g (Grey) and are made from very high quality materials:

  • Green Grey:  uses a 40D high-tenacity ripstop nylon (60 g/sm) which is double silicone coated and has a tear strength (ASTM D1424) of 14kg (min).
  • Grey: uses a 20D Silicone Impregnated 360T Ripstop Nylon with a heavy PU coating.
  • The cord and cord locks are equally over-spec'd (the cord for example has ~90kg breaking strength).

The Grey version is about 3g heavier and is a little more water resistant. The two versions are functionally very similar - it's more a matter of which colour you prefer.

Fully stuffed they stand 30cm tall and have a 5L capacity.

Although intended for cooking kits these sacks will hold an ultralight down sleeping bag, a large down jacket (product images are taken with a Black Yak Rendena XL Down Jacket) or a medium weight synthetic jacket like the ~700g Keela Belay Smock.
