Ultra-Durable, Highly Abrasion & Weather Resistant Protection for all the Gear You Need To Hand

The Tower is a full-zip, detachable, large capacity side pocket / side pouch designed to hold all the gear you may need to quickly access between packing up in the morning and setting up at night. Available in a range of high quality materials, colours and weights, from the lightweight 120g HEX to the ultra tough (~200g) DURAs, the Tower's additional capacity will seriously extend the range of the self-supported long distance trekker.

Note:  The Olive Green HITs and the Grey and Royal Blue DURAs have the upgraded carabiner clips and elasticated cord.

See Scramble's release note to get a good understanding of which one might suit you.

For a deeper dive into the Towers, see Scramble's product release, their review and their post on design & materials.

High centre of gravity without a wide profile

Quick Summary

The Towers provide:

  • meaningful additional capacity without overly extending the user's width profile
  • a high centre of gravity (to not compromise pack stability / agility)
  • a high degree of protection from the environment (being extremely strong, abrasion and weather resistant)
  • universal and secure attachment (will work with any pack that can host a closed cell mat via its compression straps)
  • full, quick and convenient access to the gear you need while on the move

Tower 11L Easy Access

General Features

  • Square Base Low Profile Packing Cell: The square base cuboid design maximises capacity and reduces width profile and at 50cm tall, spreads the load vertically providing a higher centre of gravity than many other options, accomodating packable tent, tarp and trekking poles.

  • Abrasion Resistant: Even the lightest Tower is made from the kind of materials generally reserved for high stress areas on many packs (from 400D Hexagon Ripstop to 1000D Cordura or 850D Ballistic Nylon).

  • Water-Resistant: All the Towers have an inner PU (or Acrylic) waterproof coating as well as surface DWR treatment. Attachment point stitching and roof section is PU seam-sealed.

  • Waterproof Cap / Pull Tab: Directs rain water / run-off away from the zip enclosure.

  • Attachment Points (x6): The Towers have 4 attachment loops for the top compression strap (though are designed to use only one) to a) adjust the height at which the Tower is secured to the pack, b) to provide additional security should compression straps loosen, and c) to ensure the compression strap is easily available when re-securing the Tower to the pack. The other attachment points are at the top and base to provide additional support and security. The Tower can also be added to the backs of certain packs, for example, they work well attached to the back of the Blue Ice Dragonfly (making for an ultra-lightweight < 500g) ~30L pack.

  • YKK Zips: High quality, easy glide YKK Vislon zips ensure easy, no fuss access.

Attributes Table

Summary from Scramble's Outline:

"Our favourite packs are the Karrimor SF Predator 30 and the Blue Ice Warthog 40. The Scramble Tower is the perfect companion for both of these and pretty much all 30L+ packs on the market. [...]  We looked at a large number of 60L packs and noted their weights. If you add a couple of Towers to the Blue Ice Warthog 40 for example, you end up with a very comfortable, agile, incredibly tough 60L pack that weighs just 1370g (much lighter than the vast majority of 60L packs out there). Since testing, the Scramble team have dumped their pouches, pockets and heavy duty dry bags. I have to admit I've done the same, it's basically solved all my load extension issues and has meant that as long as my 30/40L pack of choice can handle the load (which it can) I can seriously extend its capacity and thus extend my range, especially in Winter when kit is always bulkier and heavier and at the same time reduce my overall pack weight.

Furthermore, it enables buyers of new packs to consider a different approach; being able to opt for a tough minimalist climbing pack knowing it can be configured and extended for touring / backpacking with the use of a Tower or two. The outdoor industry might not appreciate selling less packs, but at Scramble we've always had the view that one or two packs should really suffice (a small 20L pack and a 30/40L pack that can be extended to around 60L). The Tower makes that ideal a genuine reality."

DURA Specification

Note: The DURA 850 and 1000 models are extremely similar (the Ballistic Nylon offers marginally better tear resistance, the 1000D Cordura provides marginally better abrasion resistance) both are insanely tough.

A note on EREBIS ATP by Cortman Textiles

Cortman Textiles was a key part of the initial development of the Multi Terrain Print (MTP) camouflage pattern with the MOD. The MTP pattern is exclusive to MOD approved manufacturers only. Cortman Textiles Ltd created a pattern to help with this issue. Being a key supplier to manufacturers of military equipment, they have now developed their own commercially available pattern that not only matches the official MTP but offers the same high quality finish and exceptional service life. This pattern is called Erebis:

  • 1100 decitex Cordura fabric offers tremendous durability
  • Excellent water resistance
  • Unrivalled Infra Red Reflectance (IRR)
  • Coated with olive pigmented PU giving an aesthetically pleasing reverse to the fabric as well as water resistance and durability properties
  • Acid printed giving superior colour fastness
  • Anti fungal treated for long term use and comfort

Warranty & Aftercare

1. Warranty & Repair

Scramble's 11L Towers all come with a 3 year warranty should they fail and that failure is Scramble's fault (i.e. due to manufacture / workmanship). Depending on the nature of the problem Scramble offer a simple repair, replace or refund policy.

Note: Using the Tower in any way other than its intended usage, i.e. using it as a bag, hanging it fully loaded via its attachment loops etc. will void the warranty (we know you wouldn't do these things, but some people aren't so smart). The attachment loops, though very strong and likely capable of handling such loads, are there as guides for webbing straps and for cinching the Tower to a pack to aid stability.

Washing Instructions

Do NOT machine wash. The Tower will last much longer if it never sees the inside of a washing machine.

To wash simply wipe down with a sponge and lukewarm soapy water. Then rinse off with cold water from a tap, hose or shower.

Leave it somewhere to hang and dry naturally (it will dry reasonably quickly even indoors). Do NOT tumble dry or dry next to a heat source !!!

Re-Proofing

The occasional spray of Nikwax's Tent & Gear SolarProof and/or Nikwax's TX Direct will help to keep the Tower UV and water-resistant. Once or twice a year is generally sufficient, but of course this depends very much on usage.

Always use the spray on versions NOT the wash in (that's more applicable for garments and we want to avoid washing machines).

For the HEX models we recommend brush coating with Fabsil or Fabsil Gold.

Home storage

Simply make sure the Tower is dry before long term storage. Obvious, but hey.
